The third season of Mo'Nique's F.A.T. Chance kicks off on July 28th @ 10PM ET/PT on Oxygen.
I'm all for big girls feeling good about themselves in this skinny obsessed world but is Mo'Nique promoting obesity?
What do you think? (Feel free to vote at the polls!)

There are too many things wrong with that photoshoot I cannot say...
By the way, nice blog. Thank you for the comment. I added you on my blog roll =)
~God bless.
Yes, she promotes it big time. And the sad thing is that if you speak on it then get ready for a beat down either verbal or physical. SMH!
You know you are right! This girl told me once how she was on the scale at her gym and this heavy set woman saw her and said, "Skinny Bitch, get off the damn scale." WTF! What's so ignorant about that comment is no one knows how big that sister could have been and so she could have been weighing herself to see if she reached goal. But whatever the reason..Mo has empowered big women to be nasty to skinnier woman for no damn reason. Now big women are angry on top of being fat.
Thanks for the shout Flo!
I think the beauty of plus size women should be promoted, however, we need to be realistic about some things. If this photo was intended to be about art, it missed the mark. It simply looks like six plus size sisters with paint on them - Mo looks descent however the others do not. Some body types are not meant for certain things.
Speaking as a BBW to me shes not promoting obesity.....as much as she is promoting empowermet. ANYWAYS IT SEEMS LIKE THERE IS ALLWAYS A PROBLEM WHEN A FAT PERSON DOES SOMETHING COMPARITIVE TO A SKINNY PERSON....THERES ALLWAYS A REASON THAT A BIG GIRL SHOULDNT WEAR SOMETHING OR LOOK A CERTAIN WAY.....AS FAR AS BEING RUDE OR MEAN TO SKINNY WOMEN....WE GET THA SAME TREATMENT IN RETURN I DONT ENCOURAGE IT BUT IM NOT ABOUT TO KNOCK IT OR PRETEND THAT IT DOESNT MAKE ME FEEL GOOD INSIDE TO C MO DO HER THING.
To Jmami...
the thing is is that not all women(fat, skinny, ugly, pretty etc..) need to be wearing certain things...But to be rude/ mean to other people for no reason just shows how ugly u are.....inside and out
The photo wasn't the greatest photo I've ever seen but I applaud the effort and thought. Everything isn't for everybody.
As an 495 pound proud black woman, who is neither angry, bitter or jealous, I think Mo is trying to promote self-love and acceptance. I think Mo is encourage women to take responsibility for their actions and their big bites. Large women have it rough in this world and it's nice to have someone say that you don't have to look like Nicole Ritchie, Paris Hilton, or even Beyonce to love and respect yourself and for others to respect you too.
Obseity is a real, real issue in this country and not everyone has the access to surgery, trainers, nutritionists and other support to lose the weight. And unlike Star, not everyone is denying who they are and what they do or don't do to control their weight.
I applaud Mo and her show for giving these women an opportunity to flaunt their special gifts and talents.
Work it, divas!!
Don't lie...you know you all watched Charm School. Don't even lie about the episode when you felt sorry for Darra ("Like Dat") when they made her model those curtains and she looked like a hot mess of old curtains.
So now that we're being honest with each other, don't lie that you also think Mo'Nique's promotional poster for her new show (congrats, Mo) "F.A.T. Chance" is "sick" because she is empowering larger women.
So what is the difference now, between feeling pity for someone like Dara dressed in that most unflattering get up, and then being disgusted by Mo'Nique & Crew's confidence in baring all in this artful poster? Some people are crying out that she is promoting obesity and that we shouldn't have to look at this, among other things that get increasingly more offensive.
Are we saying then, that things like gastric bypass, and the new "lap band" system, or even things like McDonald's or clothing stores like Big & Tall or even TV Shows called "Tom: The 800 Pound Man" (you know the title alone gets you to flip the channel from whatever you were watching), don't promote obesity? What we need to realize here, is that as a society we are constantly placing extreme amounts of pressure on women to be thin, and beautiful, and to fit the mold of what "we" think is the best way to look. That pressure piles on thicker and thicker as the years go by, and some people spin so out of control from the pressure, that they end up doing the exact opposite, and eating more, and more, until they end up in that scary category of "obese Americans."
I'm not saying that any type of "promotion" of obesity is a good thing because it is a serious health risk, but I would like to offer a new view on Mo'Nique's promotional poster other than whats been presented.... When people like Mo'Nique give larger women, and even men, the confidence to pose for a poster like this, and allow themselves to feel okay with themselves, they become empowered. And when you are empowered, you can do anything you set your mind to, like dropping a couple pounds. We need to stop trying to cover up obesity as dirty laundry, and I think what Mo'Nique is doing is great.
If you can take a nude photo like these ladies and feel good about what you look like and how the photo makes you feel then by all means you are truly empowered. But if you take a photo like this and look at it and inside there is a little voice that says "I wish I was a size 10 instead of a 20" then all that self-confidence and empowerment that you think Mo has helped you developed is FALSE. I don't think anybody who is really over weight wants to be. They might give up and decide they will remain at their weight...but deep down inside nobody wants to be fat. And if you say you do, you are not only lying to folks but to yourself as well.
I do feel like she is promoting obesity. I don't like the photo - I also feel it missed its mark. I don't think that its a problem to be large person..but its a well known fact that obesity is not healthy. So while I don't think its a bad idea for her to have a show marketed towards plus-sized women, especially if its meant to boost their confidence. But I also think that a VERY BIG portion of the show should be dedicated to promoting healthy lifestyle and that these women actually do need to lose some weight. Not for the rest of the world..but for their own personal health.
Eddie:
The does promote responsibility, empowerement, and acceptance. It's not fat girls sitting around having a binge. Your misunderstanding is the reason why the show is necessary.
that is just fucked up, eww, this is almost as bad as when i was listenin to the timbaland album and missy elliot was tryin to talk sexy, this pic is just fucked up, Mo aint even that funny and she aint even cute, if she lost that weight, she might be, i aint tryin to diss her cuz she big, Queen Latifah is kindah big and she sexy but mo, nu uh, lose that weight, that aint good for your heart
thats a lot of paint
Please stop with the empowerment, self esteem BS. I understand not being depressed or ashamed but being obsese, overweight or what have you is unhealthy and a serious health risk. Saying this is empowering is like complementing a crackhead. They're lifestyle is dangerous and should not be praised.
Truth of the matter is we all come in different shapes and sizes. I think she is promoting self love.Being heavy won't necessarily send you to an early grave.
I've heard stories of health fanatics dropping dead while at the gym, or while out jogging, or running a marathon. GO FIGURE.
Why, why, why , CAN'T WE AS AN BLACK RACE JUST GET ALONG. Especially the black women always nocking down each other. If other black women will pick up her book or really listen to Mo' she is not forcing the women to eat and stay fat. She is telling them that they are beautiful on the inside. Think about it if you have self confidence on the inside then it will come out on the outside. Then your life style will change. Black women especially need the most self confidence BOOSTER because we are so quick to down another sista.... Grow up just because someone is "obese" by the white man definition does not mean they sit around on the sofa and eat bon bon all day. You don't know the history behind that person weight so stop prejuding them. Black women you need to read your history.
YOU GO MO'NIQUE DO YOUR THING , I WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU AS MY SISTER.
I LOVE Mo'Nique, and what she is trying to do, but this is just WRONG......on so.many.different.levels!!!!!!!!!!
Being overweight (which I am by about 40lbs by the way), makes you mis-shapen and @risk for serious health problems.
We were not MEANT to have 3chins instead of one, or a belly that goes all the way around our middle.
I really hope these sistas are doing all they can to be as healthy as they can.....We all deserve that much.
Was the photo re-touched @ALL!?
Even the SKINNY B*%&$ get that!
Think things THROUGH before you execute your plan, next time MO.
We still love u gurl.
datz jus nasty!!!
In our black community obesity is running rampant and there's nothing beautiful about it. Obesity is a disease and if lefted unchecked....it can kill! Dr. Ro said something at one of the Pantene showcases in Dallas, that really stuck with me...it's ok to be a pluse size woman as long as you're a healthy plus size woman and let's face it..everybody is not meant to be a size six--but, if you can't walk up a flight of stairs without panting and gasping for air--guess what--you're not healthy!! Let's be smart, beautiful and healthy black people and take care of the temple GOD has blessed us with.

I'm not a big woman but I dont thinks she making being obesity ok. I think she saying that just because you big does not mean you can't be beauty and this photo is a form of art. I personal dont like it but that doesn not mean they should not be allowed to express themselves. If this picture was of skinny women nobody would have anything to say. I think she is giving heavy set woman a chance to have a higher self esteem and to love themselves the way they are.
God Bless Love ya Mo.....
I think that Mo is helping to empower these women but what many dont understand or want to see is that, the heavier you are the more your body will be negatively affected. Obesity is serious and loving yourself on the inside is key to being successful in making yourself healthier. A size 5/6/7/8 doesnt guarantee a happy life, but low blood pressure, low risk for heart attacks is what makes me happy. The more weight you carry on your body my black sisters, the more you are likely to have a heart attack. It is the same as when a "skinny" person who runs everyday, you both are over working your heart. Your hearts are working overtime to make sure you are moving on. So take care of yourselves. Happy isnt skinny, it is healthy. So what should be promoted is self awareness first and foremost.
Monique is the laziest tub of lard the world has seen. She is too lazy to get on a treadmill so she resorts to telling obese women that nothing is wrong with them and it's ok to call people who are thin "skinny bitches". Being plus-size is not a problem, as long as you are healthy. Being skinny is not bad if you are healthy. I hope Monique eats until she has a heart attack. We don't need a public figure promoting obesity.
