Will We Ever Have A Black Late Night Show Host?

Let me start by saying I do recognize this black man to be our last late night show host:

No matter what your age, everybody remembers The Arsenio Hall Show. Arsenio truly was our last black late night show host on the short lived series lasting only five years when it ended in 1994.

But when I pose the question, 'Will We Ever Have A Black Late Night Show Host?', I am thinking more specifically about shows like:

CBS's The Late Night Show with David Letterman

or NBC's The Tonight Show with Jay Leno

When will see someone of color come up the ranks like Jimmy Fallon who is already rumored to be replacing Conan O'Brien as a host of NBC's The Late Night Show when he ventures to fill Leno's shoes in 2009 on The Tonight Show.

So I ask, will we ever have a black host for one of these shows? And if so, who currently do you think could hold down one of these shows. One thing for sure, the person has to be funny! And I don't mean that corny-oreo-like-funny like Wayne Brady. Don't get me wrong. I know who ever it is must appeal to the white audience but I felt Brady only tried to appeal to that audience which ultimately made him look corny. Note to Brady: Just be yourself black. Any black host to hold this spot have to have a certain swagger about them that appeals to the masses. Black and white people alike.

So do you think we will ever have a black late night show host? And if it were today, who should it be? Cast your vote tomorrow on our new poll: Who Would Make The Best Black Late Night Show Host?
