Since last night was a fairly 'white' night on TV, I figured I'd give shed some light on today's guest of The Oprah Winfrey Show.
America's favorite black dad, Bill Cosby, pays Oprah a visit today to air some 'dirty laundry' on the violence and lack of education affecting our youth today. More specifically, our black youths.
Below are some of the shocking statistics Bill discusses on today's show:
1. At least a third of all homeless men are African-American.
2. African-Americans make up 12 percent of the general population, but they account for almost half of the prison population.
3. According to the U.S. Justice Department, 28 percent of black men born today will go to prison in their lifetimes.
4. Black youth are six times more likely to die of homicide than white youth and seven times more likely to commit a homicide.
5. Homicide is the leading cause of death among African-American males ages 15-29.
Not just identifying the problems, Bill offers some solution, by way of advice to parents, in his new book entitled, Come On People: On the Path from Victims to Victors.
This show is one to watch. I must admit at one point, I thought Bill was becoming a grumpy old man. And while I do not have any children, something about getting older is making me understand more and more his plight. Furthermore, I am most impressed with how determined he is to uplift his community, a task so many in his position and power chose to neglect.

Bill did his thing on Oprah, and I'm glad that he is talking about this topic.
I missed it on Oprah - were can I find a video of the show? I would love to see it. I've heard only good reviews.
I caught the show and I enjoyed it as well. Very serious topic and Bill does know what he is talking about. Our black youths are in a mess right now and it is up to the adults to take charge. I especially liked what he had to say about black people mistreating property because we do not own it. It explains why the 'ghetto' always looks a wreck!
Topaz, I would check Oprah.com for info on how to geta video or when it may air again.
