Paula Newsome: A Member Of The 'Women's Murder Club'

Finally a club I'd rather not go to on a Friday night!

A couple of weeks ago I caught the season premiere of ABC's Women's Murder Club. I normally don't do TV on a Friday night because my social calendar doesn't allow the time for it (yeah...right!) but I happened to stumble on this show by accident. And an accident it was.

First let me start by saying I hate the title of this show. At first blush, 'Women's Murder Club' sounds more like an all female Prison Break more than four working women (Angie Harmon, Paula Newsome, Laura Harris, Aubrey Dollar) at the San Francisco: Homicide solving murder cases.

Paula Newsome in the middle.

And to make matters worse, these women are the realest of women as they engage in all kinds of conversations ranging from relationships to bikini wax all while using their brilliance to solve these cases.

Paula Newsome makes up the black fourth of the group as the medical examiner, Claire Washburn. In the first episode, I can already grasp Newsome will play that typical wiser mother figure to the other women as she seems to be the only one settled down with a husband and kids. Question? Why do most black women in scripts fit this same bill? Dr. Bailey of Grey's Anatomy comes to mind.

Anyhoo...this show is no different than the other umpteenth crime/murder investigation shows out right now. The only difference...this show comes on a Friday night. Which is a good enough reason for me not to watch.

Women's Murder Club can be seen tonight at 9/8c on ABC.
