So it seems BET is at it again!
BET's latest programming disaster comes by way of its new show entitled , Hot Ghetto Mess, airing tonight at 10:30 PM (ET/PT).
The show is already under scrutiny as two advertisers are requesting not to have their ads run during the 1/2 hour show that intends to "shine a spotlight on prevalent images in pop culture and examine what role they play in American lifestyle." (Yeah right! We'll come back to this in a minute!) After reviewing the content of the show both State Farm Insurance Cos. and Home Depot decided against running ads during the show as well as in conjunction with any online promotions.
BET admits:
"A few of our clients have asked to move to other programming dayparts, and we simply accommodated their request."
Ok. You know you have a problem when companies are pulling advertising from a black show because of how it intends to depict black people.
The show which plans to "guide viewers through shaking booties, thug life, baby-mama drama and pimped-out high schoolers" also plans to "explore what these images really mean to all of us."
I can't speak much on this show because I have yet to view it. But I already see a problem here. BET is getting lazy. I understand the growing TV trend of highlighting things on the internet but I need BET to get off their asses and get more creative with it. While black folks may find hotghettomess.com to be hilarious do we really need all those black antics brought to the television forum with the intentions of "exploring what these images really mean to all of us"?
In my opinion, not all things internet are made for TV.
Stay tuned for Black on TV: The Good

I agree. HGM only works as a website, not a damn television show.
I find it humorous that BET would want to air a show like this, considering their whole programming line up is a hot ghetto mess.
If this is their attempt at getting back to their roots (Teen Summit, Planet Groove, Zone, etc) they're terribly misguided.
