Keys 'Smit'ten By Jimmy's 'Cane'

As reported in today's New York Post, singer Alicia Keys is dabbling in acting again as she is scheduled to be a guest star on CBS' upcoming drama series, Cane, starring Jimmy Smits.

Keys will play herself and perform her latest single, 'No One'. It is also said she will have a line or two of dialogue in the show.

I previewed this show a few week's back. Check out the promo:

Cane? More like Splenda.

Jimmy Smits [NYPD Blues] stars in this new drama series scheduled to debut on September 25th, but it doesn't pack the punch Smits' fans are accustomed to.

Playing daddy's little girl boy, Smits comes across very weak in this role of a husband/father turn head of the Duque family's sugar cane and rum empire. But casting isn't really the shows main problem.

The plot lacks a lot by way of action as I found myself nodding about twenty minutes into the show. Yes, it's a known fact that drama series of this kind have to dedicate the first episode to building the storyline but one would have to care about the sugar cane/rum industry, the Cuban culture in South Florida, Rita Moreno (also casted in the show), or all of the above to want to tune in for a second watch.

Personally, I won't be. (3 Stars)
