Black Monday: Everyboday Hates Chris Except 'Aliens'

So last night I watched CW11's primetime which I like to call, Black Monday. So where should I start? Well..let's take it from the top.

'Everybody Hates Chris' (EHC) seems to be fading in it's third season. Over the summer break it seems Chris (Tyler James William) has experienced a growth spurt which is already making his character look out of place. For one, he has grown in height which makes it a little less believable that the short bully, Caruso (Travis T. Flory), can still whip his ass, take his money and throw him in a locker.

Yesterday's epsiode was about Caruso getting his ass kicked by one of the Asian kids who he frequently bullied. This changed Caruso into a mild mannered wimp which creates chaos in the school especially for Chris who now has other bullies tearing him a new one on a daily basis. Wanting things back to the way they used to be, Chris bribes the Asian kid to fake losing a second fight with Caruso to bring things back to normal. (Yawn...yeah this one was a sleeper.)

All in all, the sub-plot of Julius (Terry Crews) sneaking behind Rochelle's (Tichina Arnold) back and working while he was supposed to be on vacation was far more funny.

Right after EHC, the new sitcom entitled, 'Aliens in America', follows. You may recall I spoke about this show briefly last week [click here], as I feel CW11 is trying to pull a fast one by slowly fading out Black Mondays. Well last night I decided to watch and while this show may stir up a laugh or two, I couldn't help notice the similarities between this show and EHC.

High school setting with the lead character being picked on and bullied by other students. A somewhat disfunctional family setting featuring the love/hate relationships of siblings. Doesn't this ring a bell?

I dont know yall. If I were Chris Rock I'd be pissed!

Black Monday: Is Pakistani The New Black?

The series premiere of 'Aliens in America' is tonight on CW11.

The show about a Pakistani ex-change student (played by Adhir Kalyan) residing in the home of a white family from Wisconsin premieres tonight at 8:30 pm following Everybody Hates Chris and preceding Girlfriends.

Was I the only person thinking a black show was going to replace All of Us that held this same timeslot last season? Or was the notion of having a whole night of primetime dedicated just to black sitcoms too much for CW11 execs to accept when the switch was made from UPN?

I suspect this is the first step being taken by the network to phase out Black Monday. This is no different than what's going on in Harlem right now. Black people move out, but only white people seem to move in. Next thing you know, Harlem will be no more black than.....CBS!

Although the show has already gotten favorable reviews, I doubt I will be tuning in, even with CW11's sneaky ploy of placing this show between two of my favotire black sitcoms.

But this does prompt one to ask the question?

Has 9/11 and the prejudices now faced by Pakistanians, Afghans, etc. made them the new black?
