Baldwin Hills' New Fresh Faces

BET's Baldwin Hills is back!

And not without some new fresh faces.

Producers must have heard how boring the last season was because the new faces added to the mix this go round has certainly turned up the heat:

Bad boy turned youth pastor, Justin is a young father who has overcome a lot of struggles to get where he is today. With Kirk Franklin as his mentor, he too mentors a group of young men in a prayer group.

High school senior and track star, Aunjel is quite the outspoken one. Known as the go getter of the bunch, Aunjel is college bound as she has been accepted to a top ten college on a track scholarship.

Johnathan is the well-rounded jock who plans to attend one of the most prestigious football programs in the country this fall. He also has dreams of becoming an author and future psychologist.

Lor'Rena is the younger sister of Aunjel and much like her sister she too is quite the talker. Lor'Rena is also a track star and seems to thrive on her popularity as she is also known as 'Queen Sheba'.

Seiko is bi-racial with a Japanese mother and African American father. Strong minded and independent, Seiko made the decision to leave her university to attend culinary school.

With school already out, Baldwin Hill season 2 should fair very well with ratings amongst the youngins.

Baldwin Hills can be seen on Tuesdays at 10 PM EDT.

'Baldwin' Thrills: You Can Take The Girl Out The Hood...

but you can't take the hood....

On last night's ep of BET's Baldwin Hills, Staci gave a lap dance to Earl during Garnette's surprise birthday bash.

Frustrated with the wall flowers at the lame party, Staci, fitted in her 'Rainbow' freakum dress, decided to liven things up a bit with a little performance that shocked all her new uppety buds. Seated in a chair in the center of the dance floor, Earl laid up while Staci gyrated all over him no different than a stripper working at your local strip tease bar.

I can't imagine any parent wanting to see their teenage daughter gyrating on some boy at all, much less on TV. But who could be shocked? Let's not forget our teenagers do have perfomances such as this one to idolize:

2003 BET Awards: Destiny's Child

Today BET poses the question, 'Was Staci's behavior acceptable or did she lose mad cool points?'

What do you think?

You can catch Baldwin Hills on BET, Tuesdays at 10 PM ET/PT.

The Good: BET's Baldwin Hills

Yesterday I closed by saying this about BET's Baldwin Hills:

I dont know about this one. If done well (and thats a BIG if) it could be entertaining. But knowing BET...this too will suck!

Well I stand corrected.

Baldwin Hills premiered last night on BET with 2 back to back episodes and it was not bad. Not bad at all.

While the formula is identical to that of MTV's teen driven shows like Laguna Beach and The Hills, BET offered more than just giving the black audience a carbon copy of those shows.

In total there are 12 teens on the show but all are not from the swanky Baldwin Hills. Staci, my favorite thus far, for example lives below Baldwin Hills. And one can only assume there will be some clash to come in future episodes that will stem from this difference in zip code. But cleverly BET is showing that no matter how different black people may be due to class and upbringing when you remove all those layers we are all truly the same.....black.

To catch the encore episode tune in tonight at 8:30 PM (ET/PT).

Stay tuned for Black on TV: The Bad.

BET 'Takes the Cake' as We Run for the 'Hills'!

Last night there was a mini blackout (and yes I paid my light bill) in my apartment building making it impossible for me to view the debut of BET's Take the Cake.

And maybe that was for the best.

'Take the Cake' is a game show with hosts Toccarra and "funny man" Joe Clair. It is set to air on weeknights at 11 PM (ET/PT). This late night game show has a unique twist however. Instead of watching someone play and win big bucks this time you the viewing audience can play from home.

How you might ask?

Well what better way to get money out of black people but by fooling them into thinking that they can win more money? If you guessed a scratch card well you were close but that's not it. We the viewing audience are to text our answers to a series of trivia questions posed by the hosts and if selected and our answer is correct then we win. As if black America didnt already have enough issues paying their cell phone bills BET now wants folks to gamble using their cell phones which will ultimately jack up their already high phone bills even higher. I can hear all the disconnect notices now. "The number you have reached..."

But wait..there's more!

BET continues with their obsession of re-gurgatating already existing white shows and simply adding color to make it appealing to black people.

Tonight, Baldwin Hills is set to premiere at 10 PM (ET/PT). Not to be confused with MTV's The Hills or the late Beverly Hills 90210, this unique (yeah right!) show is set in the 'hood' of Baldwin Hills and so we are about to be introduced to 11 rich black kids living in one of the wealthiest majority-Black areas in the U.S.

I dont know about this one. If done well (and thats a BIG if) it could be entertaining. But knowing BET...this too will suck!
