When it was confirmed that there would be two black women sitting at the coffee table of ABC's The View, the last thing I expected is that they would be at each other's throats.
'Ready to fight': Whoopi and Sherri on The View
Yesterday, Whoopi Goldberg and Sherri Shephard got into it (again) and this time it wasn't about the shape of the earth [click here] but about something of more importance...celebrity autographs!
Yes, it seems Whoopi and Sherri disagreed yesterday over whether celebrities should always give in to their fans upon their request for an autograph. Sherri feels a celebrity owes it to their fans to stop and give their fans an autograph when asked. Whoopi's response:
"So you're telling me that because you want my autograph, I'm supposed to stop for you? Who the hell are you? And I come with absolute respect when I say this."
As Sherri grew increasingly annoyed by Whoopi's interruptions, Whoopi asked her to 'relax' by which Sherri replied, "I am relaxed." Whoopi's comeback:
"No, you're not. You're ready to fight! You're sitting like this,"
At which point Whoopi took on a fighter's pose.
I don't know what to make of all this. Sherri, as of late, has been the center of all The View drama. Just last week, she inadvertenly outed Queen Latifah.
I predict a bigger blow up is coming soon which will lead to Sherri being ousted from the show ala Star Jones.
A whopping 11 readers voted in my last poll: Do You Share Whoopi's View On Michael Vick?
72% of voters do not share Whoopi's 'view'.
Yes [ 72% ] No [ 27% ]
This was obvioulsy a no brainer. While Whoopi was offering to find a reason for Michael Vick's actions I don't feel she was defending his actions in anyway as she stated the day after the hoopla. [Click here to watch]
In other 'View' news, apparently Babs had to check Elisabeth yesterday on the show. The duo apparently got into about a disagreement on of all people, Monica Lewinksy.
The whites seem to be fighting a lot lately. First Tommy Lee and Kid Rock [click here to watch] at the MTV Awards and now this!
Whoopi defended supported Michael Vick to some degree citing 'that all the nasty business really wasn't Vick's fault because, after all, in the culture he comes from, this kind of thing is normal'.
Elisabeth really seems pressed to be holding her tongue. It being Whoopi's first day and all. But then finally she did cave in and gave her hard opinion.
Now fast forward to day 2:
Whoopi let it be known that she was in no way supporting, defending or condoning Michael Vick's actions and all seems well again on The View. Or is it?
Why was Elisabeth not sitting next to Whoopi on day 2 as she was the previous day? Is there already beef on the set? WTF!!
Be sure to watch as this saga of musical chairs unfolds.
And what the hell happened to the open spot? Did Babs think we forgot?
First day on the job and Whoopi Goldberg already got the white folks writing about her 'view':
In today's New York Post, Whoopi is bashed for defending Michael Vick on yesterday's show citing 'that all the nasty business really wasn't Vick's fault because, after all, in the culture he comes from, this kind of thing is normal'.
I knew this comment would get the pet loving white folks up in arms. I was surprised Elisabeth didnt lunge across the table and start yanking out Whoopi's locks. But I guess she didn't want to start this season the same way she ended the last one.
This is the second black celeb [click here] to defend Vick in that he didn't know better because this kind of stuff happens all the time in the hood. But does that make it right? And should we slap all black celebs on the wrist when they get caught up in some illegal isht simply because it's done in the hood?
What do you think? Vote on tomorrow's poll: Do You Share Whoopi's View On Michael Vick?
I find it interesting that folks actually feel Sherri is entitled to equal salary to Whoopi. Especially since Whoopi is slated to sit in the moderator's seat. I think the person sitting in that seat should earn some extra cash just for having to moderate all that bitchin' every morning. But withstanding that point, say we just look at both individuals' background. Whoopi is an Oscar, Golden Globe and Tony Winner while Sherri.....can be seen in Who's Your Caddy? I'm just saying!
Well the saga still continues as Sherri is reportedly negotiating for equal salary to both Joy and Elisabeth. While this makes more sense, I am sure Joy and Elisabeth both are not feeling that. Apparently now they are really considering Kathy Griffin for the spot who I am sure will jump at this opportunity regardless of pay so she can now upgrade from the D list to C.

Be sure to vote on our new poll coming soon: Should Sherri Shephard Earn Equal Salary To Whoopi on The View?
One of the two new hosts of ABC's The View has just been confirmed on this morning's show! (Curses! My sources failed me!)

Whoopi Goldberg will join the show next season for a fact, filling Rosie's spot. However, no mentions of Sherri Shephard just yet. If Sherri gets the gig, the ratio of black to white on the panel will now be even! LOL!
In all seriousness though, ABC should have sought after someone from the latin community to co-host. I agree with Star's point, [made here] in that the panel should "look like a fabric of society".
The summer months sure can create some still moments on TV. But nonetheless, here are some 'Black on TV' tidbits:
Tony winner, Ben Vereen will make a guest appearance on ABC's hit drama series, Grey's Anatomy. He will be playing a burn victim and will be under the care of Mike and Izzie on the episode. Vereen's appearance will air as the second episode of season 5.
While the buzz of Whoopi and Sherri joining ABC's The View continue to be the talk around town, apparently even The View is not safe from the most recent British invasion, also known as The Beckhams! I will keep this short since it is a non-black issue, but as reported in The New York Post, Victoria Beckham is said to be joining the platform for a two week stint.
Oh and despite all the Whoopi/Sherri talk/predictions/speculations/leaks as of late, I still think Gayle got this gig. My sources could be wrong but something just don't seem right about all this hype. I guess we shall soon find out.
UPDATE: As reported in The New York Post, it seems Posh hasn't signed any contracts to be on The View as ABC never even considered her for a two week sit-in.
Rumors! You gotta love em! Read more on this here.
And things really are heating up on Fox's Hell's Kitchen as the cooking competition is now down to three competitors. Of the three, Rock is still in the mix! Julia, the other black competitor, was sent home last week but not before Chef Ramsay praised her growth on the show and offers to send her to culinary school. I liked Julia, but I knew she couldnt win on her 'Waffle House' experience alone.
I am sure Rock is getting this win by default. Not to take away from Rock's culinary skills, but isn't funny how a white man(Andrew, winner of Season 1) and white woman(Heather, winner of Season 2) must always win at these comptetitions before anyone of the black persuasion?
Today, Black On TV learned who has been slated to replace Star Jones, as the 'black' view of ABC's Daytime TV bitch-fest talk show, The View!
As recently reported here, Star Jones was quoted expressing not liking the show as of late citing that since her departure the show lacked some 'color'. Well, no sooner than running that story did we get an insider tip on who has already been slated to fill the 'black' seat.
The three being considered up until now was comprised of Whoopi Goldberg, Sherri Shephard and Gayle King. All great candidates if you ask me but we all know ABC is looking for one thing and one thing alone. RATINGS!
Whoopi Goldberg is still loved by all and she could pull this off effortlessly. She can be just as mouthy as Rosie at times which does garner ratings.
Hear this viewer's thoughts on why Whoopi should get the gig:
Sherri Shephard is great too. Her comedian background gives her the quick wit experience needed to sit on that panel. And she certainly can hold her composure when all hell breaks loose.
Remember this?
This show goes down in 'View' history that she will forever be a part. But does she stand to pull more ratings than Whoopi?
Lastly, we have Oprah's BFF, Gayle King. Gayle should just get the job for that reason alone! But let's not forget her day-to-day is holding down O Magazine as the Editor-at-Large.
But remember Gayle's last talk show attempt?
Despite how boring Gayle may have been back then, I am sure Oprah's vote alone makes her a shoe-in! Besides, ABC execs are probably banking on Oprah's viewers tuning in to watch. (cah-ching!)
So who do you think is the new black host of 'The View'? Shouldn't be too hard to guess when you look at it from this perspective.
