Will Nick Bring 'Talent' To NBC?

Well look who found full-time work in this bad economy.

Musician, comedian, actor, producer and part-time chapperone to wife Mariah Carey, Nick Cannon has just inked a deal to host NBC's 'America's Got Talent'.

The news comes on the heels of last week's announcement that former host Jerry Springer would be stepping down as host.

While he is set to host the show in its upcoming fourth season, it seems NBC have some more plans in the works for Cannon.

Network chief Ben Silverman says there are "multiple projects we are looking to do with Nick at NBC."

I don't know how I feel about this just yet. I hope some of these 'multiple projects' include some acting roles. I can't hate on Cannon's hustle but at 28, I'd like to see him do more feature films and less of these hosting gigs.

The fourth season of America's Got Talent will air this summer. Check your local listing for times.

Does Anybody Get 'Heroes' Yet?

So last night I made a third attempt to watch NBC's 'Heroes'.

Is it me, or is there a lot of folks on this show?

For those of you who don't know or struggle to understand this show, the plot is fairly simple. 'Heroes' follows the lives of ordinary people who discover they possess extraordinary abilities.

I watched the season premiere a couple of months back and found it quite confusing and boring. There was very little action or intrigue to make me want to want to tune in again. But as promised, I tuned into NBC last night and gave it another try. I must admit this episode was not too bad. In fact, after three attempts I think I got it this time. Let me repeat, I think.

First of all, about 20 minutes into last night's ep I realized none of the characters were remotely familiar to me. This I had expected since I haven't kept up with the show but what dawned on me is this show has so many story lines they don't necessarily follow up on each plot each week. Another interesting fact about this show's makeup, story lines exist separate and apart from one another. With most shows, we often wait for story lines to tie or meet but that's not necessarily the case here. Or at least, not yet.

Anyhoo, during the hour episode I did notice a few black characters. And wouldn't you know it, one of them even died. D.L., played by Leonard Roberts, is a rookie firefighter who used his super abilites to save a girl from a burning house. What all does his super abilities entail, I have yet to figure out. But he did die later in the show when shot point blank to the chest. D.L.'s wife, Niki (played by Ali Larter) suffers from multiple personalities and disappeared to a club when one of her personalities named Gina takes over. When D.L. tracked her down in the club she was doing coke and hanging with other club goers. He was later shot when he tried to rescue her from the club by one of those same club goers.

A funeral was held for him but I still question is he really dead. And what happened to his super abilities? He could save a girl from a burning house but couldn't survive a bullet? I don't get it. But then again, I guess I need to watch further to get it.

'Heroes' can be seen on Monday nights at 9/8c on NBC.

NBC's Green On TV

So last week NBC went 'green' in an all out campaign focused on entertaining, informing and giving viewers the knowledge to lead 'greener' lives.

I have to admit I have a lot of respect for NBC for taking on this worthy cause for one reason and one reason alone. Global Warming!

As I sit here in New York City on this 12th day of November in a pair of jeans, a light cotton button front and an even lighter jacket it has become increasingly obvious that this whole Global Warming thing is for real. Normally this time of year, I would be layered in everything from long johns to a triple goose down North Face!

Last week I watched as the NBC's Today Show anchors Matt Lauer, Al Roker and Ann Curry were all shipped off to different corners of the world to take a closer look at the effects global warming has had on regions such as the North and South Pole and the Equator. In addition, NBC strategically roped this green theme in a number of it's programming including The Bionic Woman, My Name Is Earl and even during the daytime on it's popular soap, Days Of Our Lives.

Impressed by NBC's iniative, I thought to join in on the campaign.

So this week will be GREEN ON TV Week where each day I will provide one tip from the 'Green is Universal' campaign on what you can do to help in reducing greenhouse gases which ultimately is responsible for our 'warming' planet. All tips shared can be found on NBC's green site by clicking here.

In addition, this week BONTV will be featuring blacks on NBC programming only.

Today's green tip: Take a shorter shower. In doing so you will save water and the energy it takes to heat it which in turn reduces carbon dioxide emissions.

Now, make it short but still get all the important parts now. We need a greener earth not a smelly one.

29 New Season Premieres This Fall...Are Any Of Them Black?

Monday officially kicks off the Fall new season as the three major networks (CBS, NBC and ABC) will debut their new show line-up.

As reported in today's New York Post, we, the viewers, can expect 29 new shows this Fall. My only questions is...are any of these shows black?

I have to admit I am surprised at these networks. What happened to NBC which used to air shows like, 'The Cosby Show' and 'A Different World'?

I remember back in the 80's black people coined the term 'Negro Broadcasting Corporation' when referring to NBC.

But NBC is not the only one to blame here. CBS, home of the mid 70's to early 80's hit, The Jeffesons, seems to have not taken a chance on a black sitcom since.

At least ABC, just a year or so ago, gave us My Wife and Kids.

Then there is UPN who last year handed over it's 'black' Monday nights over to CW11 which have since crashed 'All Of Us'. To date, I have yet to watch UPN and no word yet on any new black show to replace 'All of Us'.

So what's going on here? Are there not enough good black shows being pitched to the networks? Or are we no longer considered 'in' or funny enough for primetime on one of the three major networks. What do you think? And if there is a black show due to come out next week that I have not heard about, please enlighten me.

Boy, it's time like these that I am so grateful we have BET. NOT!

NBC's Tuesday Night Crimetime Primetime

Is it me or has Tuesday night primetime become the night for detective, clue finding, shoot 'em up, bang bang, missing person/murder mystery, drama?

NBC seems to think so.

Tonight NBC kicks off primetime with Dateline NBC. Lately it's been all about catching a predator, as we the viewers get to sit in on this real-life stake out for internet surfing child molestors. I this show is great and hella entertaining! To watch the blood drain from these guys faces as they come to grips with the fact that their lives are over makes for great TV. Granted I havent caught every episode, I have yet to see any black men getting caught on that show.

Well whatever the reason this show serves a purpose. And this is one time I could care less about color or the fact that the black to white ratio is low.

Following Dateline is Law & Order: Criminal Intent. Law & Order has so many spin-offs it's hard to keep up. I have to admit I don't watch this particular one. Could it be because out of the 5 characters not 1 is black? No that's not it. In fact, just up until last year the show starred Courtney B. Vance. From what I understand he is no longer but I need a black or at the very least a latin replacement asaNOW!

And last but not least at 10 PM EST, Law & Order: SVU closes this primetime evening. As you already know from reading here this is one of my favorites.

Anyhoo, if you are not feeling the 2-3 hours of repeats of crime related drama series tonight there's always reality TV. Check out Fox's American Idol or CW11's The Search for the Next Doll if you are not feeling all this cop stuff.
